A particularly interesting meeting focused on the role of the Chamber System in the context of Italy-Cyprus bilateral cooperation in the Mediterranean region took place on October 20th in Limassol at the Eastern Mediterranean Conference & Exhibition (EMC), in a context that brought together representatives from the Italian and Cypriot public and private sectors to discuss the opportunities and prospects for the development of economic and commercial relations between the two countries in the area.
The meeting, titled “Italy-Cyprus Cooperation and Opportunities in the Mediterranean. The role of the Chamber system as a bridge between institutions and businesses in the area” opened by the Ambassador of Italy in Cyprus H.E. Federica Ferrari Bravo and moderated by the President of the Italian-Cypriot Chamber of Commerce Giuseppe Marino, saw the participation of representatives of the Foreign Affairs and European Committees of the two Countries through the presence of the Hon. Federica Onori, Secretary of the Standing Committee on Foreign and EU Affairs of the Chamber of Deputies and from the Cypriot side the Hon. Harris Georgiades, President of the Standing Committee on Foreign and EU Affairs of the House of Representatives as well as that of the Secretary General of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry Philokypros Roussonides and the Vice President of the Italian-Cypriot Chamber and President of the Cyprus Italy Business Association Costas Katsaros.
It was an important opportunity for discussion on the role of the various public and private actors in promoting the country system, which also included a brief intervention by the Director of the Beirut Office (responsible for Lebanon, Cyprus and Syria) of the Italian Trade Agency Marina Scognamiglio and which was attended by several representatives of companies from both Countries as well as representatives of the Società Dante Alighieri, particularly active on the island in the activities of promoting and disseminating the Italian language and culture.
This significant presence underlined the central role of the Chamber in facilitating dialogue between institutions and businesses of both countries, as well as the renewed commitment to promoting concrete opportunities for discussion and development for its members on the Italy-Cyprus axis and in the broader Mediterranean context.
